Living at the cyberfringe 15 minutes in the future: Stay up way too late, sleep too little, work too hard, curious about almost everything, laugh at unusual things, thoughtful and always opinionated!

Its been a long time since I've stumbled, primarily because my Firefox browser was busted (too many add-ons). And because of RL work. And because I've been spending time in Secondlife. I'll catch up soon!

Sorry for being absent for so long -- I've been in Secondlife. Take it from one who was there at the creation of the Internet ... Secondlife (aka "SL") today is at the stage where the WWW was in 1995. Check it out! This link takes you to a "Secondlife-based URL" or SLurl, from which you can "teleport" to a "Bar" I just opened in SL. You'll need the Secondlife client software (see link above). Best of all, Secondlife is *free*. Secondlife was created by Linden Labs based on a vision put forth in the book "Snowcrash"(Neil Stephenson) of the "Metaverse". Its not quite there yet ... remember I said 1995. Soon. The train is leaving the station.

Quote Of The Day
"I'm not sure, so I'm going to go with the side that pretends it's sure and is absolutely infallible, as opposed to the side that can go 'Hey, we found new evidence, we were wrong!"
- Mike Huckabee denies evolution and science
I have a small favor to ask: Can we please PLEASE not elect another President who is uneducatable, ignorant, and a social fascist? Please?

Infinited Embedded Universes: A Doorway to Elsewhere?
Loop quantum gravity defines space-time as a network of abstract links that connect tiny chunks of space.

"When matter gets swallowed by a black hole, it could fall into another universe contained inside the black hole, or get trapped inside a wormhole-like connection to a second black hole, a new study suggests....
...black holes may contain their own universes, but those universes would likely contain their own black holes, which could contain their own universes ... in an infinite loop."
Thanks to profoundmusing for leading me to this, and starspirit for finding it!

An experimental composite weather map from NOAA. It is dynamically updated and allows you to select over a dozen different overlays to combine. If you are a weather geek, you'll love this.

Not to be an alarmist, but ...
"How dire is the climate situation? Consider what Rajendra Pachauri, the head of the United Nations' prestigious Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), said last month: "If there's no action before 2012, that's too late. What we do in the next two to three years will determine our future. This is the defining moment." Pachauri has the distinction, or misfortune, of being both an engineer and an economist, two professions not known for overheated rhetoric."
